Birth date : 1949
Born in Champagne in 1949, Claude BERTRAND discovered sculpture in 1972.
Until 1991 he carved sculptures close to Romanesque art through tender and naive characters. These sculptures in wood and bronze take on more contemporary forms.
It was in 1998 that he discovered sculpture on marble, and in particular the black of Belgium, his favorite stone. This allowed him to explore a new search for lines and shapes and to develop a cubic work in opposition to Roundness so characteristic of his work today.
His marble sculptures seek to establish a link between the living and the mineral. Some raw surfaces are for him a living beauty that he wants to preserve and use in a contrast, a movement, an emotion ….
